AMD vs. Intel

Hey guys, I'm not sure if i will be buying or building a PC yet but I don't know what processor i should be looking at. AMD is alot cheaper then Intel but i heard they don't last long and are not as fast. Intel is expensive and fast. I have $1000 to spend. Should i buy a expensive processor or get a better motherboard and video card?

Comment what you recommend. Thanks.

  1. I'm a fan of AMD as well. For the money, they are excellent. You will get a processor faster than a similarly priced Intel.

I don't know how it is now but I remember some years ago AMD temps were much better in general than Intel. Not sure that is the case now though.

  2. AMD are a lot cheaper - and as far as quality goes - there isn't much in it. I have an Intel processor myself, and I feel safe with it. For some reason, I just don't feel comfortable with AMD processors. For example, you can get a six-core AMD processor for less than the price of a low-range i7. The only thing that AMD processors miss is hyperthreading, which is only useful in certain environments anyway. An AMD processor would be perfectly fine for you, spend more on video cards and some fast RAM, along with a decent motherboard, as you probably wont tell the difference between getting a quad-core i7 and a hex-core Phenom.

  3. I prefer Intel. I don't know anything, but AMD seems like a cheaper inferior ghetto product.

  4. Not a big computer guy, but I've heard that Intel processors are a better fit for business computers because they run well without needing to power down, i.e. the comp can stay on for months at a time. For a personal computer, I think you would be find with AMD, and spending the extra money on graphics card if your a gamer, etc. Good luck!

  7. Wow, do people think computers are run on fucking magic? I've heard you don't have to shut down intel processors as often!!! are you fucking serious. I have a phenom that is on everyday, the only reason it ever goes down is if there is a power outage that is long enough to drain the UPS it run on. Intel vs AMD is as pointless as the Ford vs Chevy truck debate. Both companies have made some great products, both have made some very shitty products. Read about individual items to see if they make sense for you. There are very few blanket statements that will help this question be answered.

  11. Get AMD and spend a smidgeon more on some good RAM and a video card.

  12. Don't skimp on the motherboard and processor, spend the most money on those first. AMD and Intel both have great products, you can always go to pcmech.com and ask there. The processor you want depends (or dictates) what motherboard you get.

  14. I've never used an AMD processor and don't know enough about the internals to sway either way - I've just used Intel out of them being stable in my experience. +followed, http://cryptozen.blogspot.com
